Inflation Manipulation and Flipping Ships: 21 Billion dust by turn 72 normal speed with Umbral Choir
Summary:
Sell a bunch of expensive carriers for dust as your starting seed. Make the carriers as bad as possible by equipping them with expensive and useless gear so they will sell for a lot and the AI won't buy them from the market.
Drop the inflation to x0.25 by getting a massive negative income from Behemoth C3 Center spam to increase your upkeep. [Each Behemoth C3 Center doubles the upkeep of a Behemoth up to a 100k/behemoth cap]
Buy your carriers back from the market and spam dust upgrades on your Trade Headquarters for pennies due to the x0.25 inflation
Scrap some Behemoth C3 Centers. This along with your heavily boosted Trade Headquarters will give yourself a massive income and spike up the inflation rate. [I reached x1384 inflation]
Sell your ships for $$$
Mods:
Edited AI faction traits to give them Extreme Foremen and Planet Menders so that they have a permanent +150% FIDSI generation. This stacks multiplicatively on top of their difficulty bonuses, so they have around a 15x boost to their FIDSI.
Edited galaxy generation weightings so that no systems spawn with 2 or fewer planets.

Endless difficulty is a cakewalk, so this is to make the AI stronger by giving them larger bonuses and band-aid the AI weakness of constantly settling 1-2 planet systems. Everything described here is still possible with no modifications, though having Behemoths makes this much easier.

So in the process of my Umbral Choir speedrun [turn 57 science victory, 8 million science per turn by turn 70, normal speed without abusing the market], I discovered a pretty cool market loophole to manipulate the market inflation and flip ships to make 20 billion dust in two turns. There's actually no limit to how much you can do this and you could make an infinite amount of dust, but I got bored and stopped after 20 billion.
I don't think the inflation manipulation process is something that necessarily needs to be fixed since by the time you're able to pull this off, you've already won or are in a position to easily steamroll a 1v11 war. The main thing that's broken and should be addressed is how I'm somehow able to buy a ship back for significantly less than what I sold it for at extremely high inflation rates/volumes.
I think Umbral Choir is the best race for this since all their trade income is consolidated into a single super Trade Headquarters, so you don't need to split your upgrades across different Trading Companies.
In the process of leveling my heroes, I had my system produce a lot of high production cost but useless carriers and sold them afterwards. 2x Blast Effect Battery and Repulsive Plate/Smart Flak support modules gave me a 11k industry cost carrier with an offensive military power of 200 so that I won't be potentially arming other empires by giving them good ships to buy.

2) I accidentally overproduced a Behemoth C3 Center, which combined with my 15+ behemoths, spiked my income to a negative 100k. I then scrapped my Trade Headquarters to drop my income even further to see if I could reduce the inflation even more, but it turns out x0.25 is the cap. The negative income was large enough to drop the cumulative galaxy dust production below 0, giving the market an inflation of x0.25. This made Trade Company upgrades insanely cheap to upgrade, and I spent all my dust upgrading the dust income 1778 times, giving my trading company a 13 million income per turn.

3) The 13 million dust per turn income bumped the market inflation to x1384, and my carriers were selling for 200 million each.

4) I'm not sure why, but either due to the volume of carriers I was selling or the extreme inflation rate, I could buy back the same carriers from the market for between 10-50 million and resell them again for 150m+. Once I repeated this several times and reached 21 billion dust, the cost to buy a carrier become greater than the how much I got from selling it.

5) In theory, I can repeat the process all over again with 21 billion dust as my new starting seed -- delete my Trade Headquarters to drop my income back into the negatives and reset inflation back to 0.25, build a new trading center and spend the 21 billion dust on upgrading it [though this will probably take several hours of spamming clicks and give you carpal tunnels], and then get an exponentially higher income to increase the inflation rates to even more ridiculous levels and sell + rebuy ships again at exponentially higher prices. Repeat until you're a trillionaire/quadrillionaire/quintillionaire/etc.
